Science and engineering are disciplines that draw from observation, experimentation, and application. Through science, we are able to gain a deeper understanding of our existence by subjecting our observations to rigorous testing, constantly verifying and refuting the conclusions made by those before us. As a visual artist, I am motivated by the same sense of curiosity. Our desire to reveal knowledge is rooted in the search for higher truths, be they rational or spiritual. The results of inquiry may take many forms but the methods are quintessentially human.
It is primarily the phenomenon of technology that concerns me—its promise, its peril, its inevitability. Like the bacteria that have co-evolved with the human digestive system over millennia, technology has infected the host of humanity. I am interested in how our society perceives this infection. Is it parasitic, symbiotic, or a combination of both?
